Assistance for Israel

A handful of reporters have asked why I voted against the aid package for Israel last week.

Obviously, I’m not opposed to the concept of assistance for Israel, but friends we’re $34 trillion dollars in the hole with deficits spiraling out of control. We can’t even pay our own bills without borrowing substantial amounts of money at inflated interest rates. There’s NO DISCUSSION about any spending reductions to pay for any of this, so we’re just supposed to borrow more and more money to pay for this aid?!

I’m sorry, but not with my vote. Check this out…

Last week the Congressional Budget Office issued a new report projecting our DEFICITS to grow another trillion dollars over the next decade.  Remember: a deficit is when we spend more than we collect in taxes. Each year, our deficit gets added to our mountain of national debt. As things stand right now, we’re running a trillion-dollar deficit most every year; now the Congressional Budget Office says we’ll soon add ANOTHER trillion dollars every year on top of that!  (Three quarters of which will be just to pay the interest on our $34 trillion+ national debt.)

It’s borderline criminal what we’re doing, and it’s sad that the United States is no longer able to help a critical ally because of our own abhorrent financial recklessness.
