Congressman Norman Supports POTUS’ Historic Rescissions Package

Washington, D.C. –  Today, President Donald J. Trump requested that Congress rescind over $15 billion in previously appropriated funding, the largest rescission package in American history. Since 1974, both Democratic and Republican Presidents have used the Impoundment Control Act to propose nearly $76 billion in cuts to Federal spending. Congressman Ralph Norman (SC-05) fully supports the President’s request.

In fact, in April, Congressman Norman introduced H.R. 5442, A Fast-Tracked Executive Rescission Review (AFTERR) of Appropriations Act. This legislation is aimed to drastically aid Congress to cut needless federal spending by requiring Members of Congress to vote on the proposed rescissions from the White House.

Congressman Norman has released the following statement:

"I will continue to say this: Washington does not have an income problem; Washington has a spending problem.

“President Trump and his administration clearly understand how reckless federal spending negatively effects not only our economy, but taxpayers in the long-run. I applaud the President and my predecessor, Director Mulvaney, for this historic $15 billion rescission package. They, as well as I, are committed to tackling Washington’s out-of-control spending and our abysmal national debt.

“Every day Americans are forced to budget and balance their checkbooks, and it is time that the federal government do the same. Although we need to cut even more, this proposal is a step in the right direction.

“I look forward to a vote on this package, and would like to see where the Democrats stand on billions of stagnant, unspent funds just sitting in agency coffers.”
