WASHINGTON -- Representatives Ralph Norman (SC-05) and Dave Brat (VA-07) announced the launch of the Congressional Waste-Cutters Caucus during a joint interview streamed on Facebook live from the Capitol. Citizens Against Government Waste President Tom Schatz hosted the event.

The new caucus’s mission will be to highlight instances of wasteful federal spending and offer amendments during the appropriations process that would eliminate wasteful spending. The caucus also calls on leadership to reform the appropriations process so that members will have enough time to review spending packages and ensure taxpayer money is being spent responsibly.

“Without fiscal responsibility and discipline, our children and grandchildren will be lifting the burden that we leave for them as a result of our reckless, out-of-control spending,” said Rep. Norman. “The premise behind this caucus is to bring attention and awareness to the fact that we have an uncontrollable national debt, and that we need to act now before it’s too late. We want to use this caucus to highlight government-funded programs that are wasteful and benefit only a select few. We want to highlight and offer amendments to end wasteful programs and riders in appropriations bills. We want to find a way to get Congress back to regular order when it comes to our budget and funding our government.”

The caucus formed and launched months after Congress passed a massive omnibus spending package that increased federal spending by $400 billion. Both Reps. Norman and Brat voted NO on the bill.
