National Term Limits Day

We have term limits for the President. We have term limits for Governors. Why not Congress?!

It’s simply wrong for anyone to build a lifelong career in elected office, especially at the federal level. Some argue that long-term politicians are necessary because they “know the system” and “keep things running.” That’s nonsense.

What we actually need are citizen legislators—people who serve for a reasonable period, then step aside. The longer someone stays in Washington, the easier it becomes to lose touch with the people back home. That’s why I’ve introduced H.J. Res 12, a Constitutional amendment to impose term limits on both the House and Senate.

Of course, there’s room to debate the exact number of terms—after all, it takes time to learn the ropes. But the fundamental principle is clear: public service should be a temporary duty, not a lifelong career.

Will Congress actually vote to end its own job security? Maybe not. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t fight for it.

Happy National Term Limits Day!
