Founded in 1982, the Congressional Art Competition is one of the few officially sanctioned competitions by the U.S. House of Representatives. It allows each Member to sponsor a high school art contest in their district. Nearly every Member participates in this bipartisan program, which fosters unity and serves as a valuable tool for constituent engagement.
Winning students have their artwork displayed in the Cannon Tunnel for 11 months and are invited to a Winner's Reception at the Capitol. The competition is a prestigious honor for students, families, and teachers, and it supports arts education nationwide.
Congratulations to the 2025 Congressional Art Competition winner, Vee from Catawba Ridge High School, for her piece titled “The Passing of Time.” This artwork powerfully blends surrealism and symbolism, using elements like clocks, gears, and an eye to explore themes of time and perception. The detailed line work and strong contrast create depth and movement, drawing the viewer into its dreamlike atmosphere. Its emotional intensity and layered imagery make it both thought-provoking and visually compelling.
Please join me in congratulating Vee, along with our 2nd and 3rd place finalists—Emerson for “Grandma’s Apples” from Fort Mill High School, and Anna Kathryn for “Sight” from Wilson Hall!
