Last night, Congress passed a government funding bill that failed to provide the necessary resources to protect our country.
Don't ever forget what led us to this point. Our unsecured border has allowed obscene levels of human trafficking, gang activity and deadly narcotics into our nation. It has enabled staggering levels of criminal activity that should have never happened. It has ripped families apart and destroyed countless lives.
All while Democrats - including a very small but vocal minority on this page - continue to claim, "there is no crisis."
As part of the President's campaign pledge to secure our border, he asked Congress for $5.7 billion to cover just ~230 miles of wall in strategic locations. This bill provides less than one-quarter of that funding.
I voted no last night. This legislation was not a "compromise" on the most effective ways to protect our nation. Instead, it was an insult to the American people and does nothing but codify the dysfunction in Washington.
