I recently joined my colleagues in calling on House and Senate leadership to PERMANENTLY ban the creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) in the United States.
A CBDC is essentially a government-issued digital dollar controlled by the Federal Reserve. Unlike cash or money held in private bank accounts, a CBDC could allow the federal government to track and potentially control how Americans spend their money.
That raises serious concerns about financial surveillance and the expansion of power by unelected bureaucrats. More red tape and government overreach is exactly what we DON’T need. The House of Representatives already passed legislation earlier this Congress to permanently prohibit a CBDC. The Senate must amend the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act with STRONGER language before sending any bill to the House. A temporary ban that expires in just four years simply isn’t good enough.
Americans deserve financial freedom, privacy, and control over their OWN money. A permanent ban on a Central Bank Digital Currency is essential to protecting those principles.
