Introducing the Southern Campaign of the Revolution National Heritage Corridor Act

There are many battlefields and communities in the Carolinas that were instrumental in securing American victory in the Revolutionary War. As a general statement, these areas have not been sufficiently recognized or preserved from a historic standpoint.

Yesterday I was in Camden with Rep. James Clyburn and Rep. Tom Rice to announce the introduction of new legislation that will help protect and promote numerous Revolutionary War sites throughout South and North Carolina. This bill, H.R. 3936, would put federal resources towards preserving these sites and their history. The project would be managed by the University of South Carolina and the Culture and Heritage Museums of York County.

In the House of Representatives, this initiative was sponsored by Rep. Clyburn. I was proud to be a co-sponsor along with every other representative from South Carolina. Over in the Senate, a companion bill has been introduced by Sen. Lindsey Graham and co-sponsored by Sen. Tim Scott.

In other words, every person who represents South Carolina in Washington is behind this bill. It’s an important step to ensure this period of our history is never forgotten.
