Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ralph Norman (SC-05) has released the following statement after the bipartisan support in the House to pass the FY 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):
"Our military deserves our fullest support to ensure that they are adequately equipped with the resources and tools to maintain American readiness and to keep Americans safe at home and abroad. This bill will do just that.
“Not only does the NDAA increase sizes to our military branches so we can best be prepared and provides much needed updated equipment, it gives our troops the largest pay raise in eight years. Our servicemen and women, who make sacrifices for us every day, deserve this pay raise. We enjoy the freedoms we have today and continue to have, because of our men and women in uniform.
“One of the main responsibilities Congress has is to ensure that our nation’s armed services remain the strongest in the world and are provided the resources and tools necessary to do so. I am committed to ensuring that our servicemen and women will always receive the supplies needed.
“I look forward to seeing the NDAA signed into law by President Trump. America is the land of the free because of the brave.”
Background:
Congressman Norman introduced an amendment to the NDAA in July prior to the bill going to Conference which initially required the Director of OMB to sign off on any additional Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) in order to ensure transparency. It was amended, and passed today, to direct the Comptroller General to conduct a study on the feasibility of separating the accounts.
