Rep. Norman Leads Letter to Clemson & University of South Carolina Regarding Critical Race Theory

Earlier today, Rep. Ralph Norman led other members of the South Carolina Republican delegation to the U.S. House in a letter to Clemson University and the University of South Carolina regarding Critical Race Theory (CRT). This letter:

  1. strongly condemns Critical Race Theory;
  2. expresses significant concerns, with examples, over CRT lessons being taught on the campuses of Clemson and UofSC;
  3. urges those two universities to discontinue CRT teachings at their respective institutions.

Rep. Norman was joined on this letter by fellow South Carolina Reps. Nancy Mace (SC-1)Joe Wilson (SC-2)Jeff Duncan (SC-3)William Timmons (SC-4), and Tom Rice (SC-7).

Rep. Norman issued the following statement on Monday:

"Critical Race Theory is a bigoted, dangerous philosophy that seeks to assign both an identity and blame to someone based not on their beliefs or actions, but instead on the color of their skin. It has no place in American society, let alone our classrooms.

"I want to thank my South Carolina Republican colleagues, Representatives Duncan, Mace, Wilson, Timmons, and Rice for joining me in this letter to the University of South Carolina and Clemson University. We look forward to responses from both of those institutions."
