'For the People Act' Update

THANKFULLY some good news to report this Tuesday evening. Liberals in the Senate have failed to advance the mistakenly-titled “For the People Act.” This effort is dead for now.

The Democrat-controlled House passed its version of this a while back. (In case you missed it, I was a strong, vocal NO when this came up for a vote in the House.) The House’s version of this bill was a total disaster. Among other things, it would have prohibited states from requiring voter ID and prohibited witness signatures for absentee ballots. See my post back on March 1st for additional details. The list of problems with this bill is extensive.

Liberals claim those who oppose this bill are somehow anti-voting rights. That’s a lie, of course. We’re just opposed to codifying into federal law everything that could possibly make our elections less secure. And if they honestly cared about election integrity, they too would have opposed this legislation with every fiber of their being. But they don’t, so they didn’t.

Even though Democrats control the Senate, they needed 60 votes this evening to formally begin debate of their version of this bill. Failing to garner 60 votes, the measure is essentially dead. For now at least.
