Washington, D.C. –  Congressman Ralph Norman (SC-05) has released the following statement in response to President Trump’s State of the Union address:

“President Trump is determined to build a safe, strong, and proud America. His accomplishments just from his first year prove it.

“Tonight, we heard from President Trump promise America that we will see higher paychecks and more jobs due to tax reform,  our economy thrive, our borders will be secured, and our depleted infrastructure solved.

“It was promised that President Trump would cut taxes. A typical family of four with a $73,000 yearly income will save over $2,000. Over 250 companies have given employees bonuses, pay raises and greater employee benefits. Over 3,000,000 employees have already directly benefited from tax reform in just one month of it being signed! Companies have also pledged to invest almost $90 billion back in to our economy.

“Under President Trump, our economy has boomed. Unemployment is at a 17-year low. Economic confidence is at a 17-year high.

“Keeping Americans safe has consistently been a top priority of President Trump’s. Building the wall remains a priority. With the increase in hiring of ICE agents, Border Patrol agents, and new immigration judges; our immigration laws will be better enforced. We are all working together to find a permanent solution.

“Lastly, it is no secret that our infrastructure is crumbling that needs to be rebuilt for a 21st Century economy. President Trump has made it a priority to focus on our roads, bridges, broadband, mass transit, airports and drinking water. I look forward to reviewing the proposal in the next coming weeks.

“A lot of accomplishments were made in 2017, but there is still a lot of work to be done for the American people. After hearing President Trump’s words and vision tonight, I am encouraged and eager to get to work.”
