Washington, D.C. –  In October 2017, Congressmen Ralph Norman (SC-05) and Jim Himes (CT-04) lead a bipartisan letter, with 37 other members, sent to Chairman Kevin Brady and Ranking Member Richard Neal, of the House Ways and Means Committee, urging for the committee to reauthorize the U.S. Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program.

Last night, Congressman Norman voted to pass H.R. 4979, which reauthorizes GSP. This bipartisan bill passed the House by a vote of 400-2.   

Congressman Norman has released the following statement:

"I am pleased to see that the House made the reauthorization of GSP a priority. With the elimination of these tariffs, costs on consumer goods are lowered and American workers and families have a greater product selection.

“America can compete globally, as manufacturing companies will be able to create more jobs and make new investments here in the U.S.

“As a member of the House Small Business Committee and a small businessman myself, I understand just how important GSP is for a level playing field for companies to compete and the creation of jobs here at home.

“President Kennedy once said, “A rising tide lifts all the boats.” We can support American prosperity while helping lift others out of poverty.”
