NEW INDY Update for those living in Lancaster, York, and Chester counties:
Yesterday, I sent a letter to the EPA Administrator requesting the agency allocate additional personnel to help review the hundreds of public comments received in response to the proposed consent decree between the EPA and New Indy Containerboard.
I realize this consent decree is one of many steps in an effort to mitigate the foul odors from the New Indy facility. The sheer volume of public comments should be a clear indication for how big of an issue this is for everyone in this region. However, that should not get in the way of an expeditious review.
We need to see the EPA move through this review process in a responsible but timely fashion so we can have robust and collaborative response to this issue.
