Today marks a long-overdue moment of justice and gratitude.
The U.S. House of Representatives has passed my legislation to advance the Medal of Honor for Major James Capers Jr., a U.S. Marine whose extraordinary heroism in Vietnam has gone unrecognized for far too long. Despite severe wounds and relentless enemy fire, Major Capers continued to lead, protect his Marines, and place their lives above his own.
His actions reflect the very best of our Armed Forces. This vote brings us one step closer to ensuring Major Capers receives our nation’s highest military honor. Freedom is never free, and we must always remember those who paid the price for it.
