WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Ralph Norman (R-SC) released the following statement after the United States Supreme Court declined to uphold President Trump’s tariff authority.
“Today’s ruling is disappointing when America has been treated unfairly in global trade for far too long,” said Congressman Norman. “President Trump was right to demand fair and reciprocal trade so our workers and manufacturers aren’t left holding the bag while foreign competitors game the system. South Carolina’s farmers, small businesses, and job creators deserve a level playing field.
“Tariffs are a tool to confront unfair trade and bring revenue into the Treasury. That revenue matters. We are $38 trillion in debt and counting, and we cannot dismiss legitimate revenue sources while Washington keeps spending without restraint.
“The spending addiction in this town is real. Big government spending bills have to stop. Period. We can demand fair trade, protect American workers, and restore fiscal sanity at the same time, and I will continue fighting for all three.”
Congressman Norman emphasized that South Carolina’s manufacturing base, agricultural producers, and small businesses have long faced trade imbalances driven by foreign subsidies, currency manipulation, and non-tariff barriers that disadvantage American producers. He reiterated his support for fair trade, strengthening our domestic industry, reducing federal spending, and restoring long-term fiscal responsibility.
