Today, I introduced the House companion to Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) & Sen. Ted Budd’s (R-NC) ISLET Act to remove unnecessary federal red tape that is preventing Americans with type 1 diabetes from accessing life-saving islet transplants. This commonsense bill corrects a federal misclassification that treats pancreatic islets as drugs instead of organs. Other countries already provide this treatment as standard care, but outdated regulations have kept many Americans from benefiting from it. Patients deserve access to proven medical treatments without unnecessary bureaucratic barriers. The ISLET Act will help expand access to life-saving care and support continued innovation in diabetes treatment. |
