Our country was shaken this weekend by yet another disturbing act of political violence.
A lunatic opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C. Thanks to the swift response of law enforcement, the suspect was apprehended. A Secret Service officer was wounded, but thankfully not seriously.
We owe a debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who stepped in without hesitation to protect others.
What’s especially concerning is that this is another attempt targeting President Trump and members of his administration in a short span of time. The President has made clear that intimidation will not deter him from doing the job he was elected to do.
There must be a full and transparent review of security protocols. Protecting our nation’s leaders is not optional. It's ESSENTIAL.
At the same time, we cannot ignore the broader climate fueling these incidents. Just last week, Hakeem Jeffries said, “We are in an era of maximum warfare.” Heated rhetoric like that has REAL consequences, and it’s time for leaders on all sides to lower the temperature.
This kind of violence has no place in America.
Please join me in praying for those affected and standing firm for the values that make our nation strong.
