Is attending Church during a pandemic more dangerous than attending a protest?
Before places of worship throughout Washington, D.C. were even allowed to partially re-open, the mayor of that city was actively encouraging people to gather and demonstrate in large crowds for protests and demonstrations.
The "right of the people peaceably to assemble" is explicitly guaranteed in our First Amendment. If people can gather together in large crowds for the sake of calling for justice and police reform, then certainly they can congregate in a socially-distanced setting to fulfill their duty to their Creator.
On July 6th I led group of 28 Members of Congress asking D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to explain this inconsistency. You can read a copy of that letter here.
