The Future of Justice Ginsberg's Seat
Washington,
September 21, 2020
Does ANYONE believe if Democrats controlled the Senate and White House, they wouldn’t be engaged in a full throttle effort to fill Justice Ginsberg’s seat on the Supreme Court before the election? Of course they would, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise.
Before President Trump, half of our nation’s presidents – 22 in total – had vacancies on the Supreme Court during an election year. Some more than once. All 22 of those presidents submitted a nominee to the Senate for consideration. Why? Because it’s REQUIRED by the Constitution. That responsibility is iron-clad and it ends when a President leaves office, not some arbitrary date beforehand. The best thing for the Supreme Court right now would be the confirmation of a nominee who is a strict constitutionalist. There should be plenty of time for President Trump and the Republican-controlled Senate to make that happen. |
