Tax Hikes Are Looming

  • Tax Hikes

Tax hikes are looming. Not with my vote, of course, but I’m only one vote in Congress, and right now I’m in the minority.

Our government spends significantly more money than it takes in. Except for me and a fair number of other Republicans in Congress, there’s simply no appetite in Washington to reduce spending like we need to.

This means additional spending for things like this horrible $1.9 trillion coronavirus package last week (which was mostly unrelated to the coronavirus) must be paid for by either adding to our $28 trillion in national debt… and/or hiking taxes.

The same goes for President Biden’s upcoming “Build Back Better” program that will spend trillions of dollars for everything under the sun. Remember all this extra spending is in addition to what it normally costs to run the federal government, which by itself exceeds what the Treasury takes in through taxes.

With a massive & growing pile of federal debt, and with Democrats running full throttle on their liberal agenda between now and the mid-term elections, they’re considering tax hikes to help pay for some of this.

To those who claim, “good, let’s tax the ‘rich’ because they aren’t paying their fair share,” remember the top 25% of income earners pay more than 86% of all federal income taxes. So that assertion is rubbish.

And to those who believe corporations should pay more taxes, remember corporations ultimately don’t pay taxes. People do. When government taxes a business, there’s absolutely nothing that company can do except pass the tax along to either: (A) customers, in the form of higher prices, (B) employees, in the form of lower wages & benefits, or (C) people who own the company, in the form of lower shareholder value and less reinvested in growth & innovation. That’s the way it works! When you tax a company, you’re taxing people.

Your federal government needs to cut spending, not spend more! Unfortunately, that’s not the position of most Democrats. This is why President Biden’s new Treasury Secretary is now saying higher taxes need to be on the table, as reported by Bloomberg and other media outlets recently.

BOTTOM LINE: this will be a Democrat tax hike. If they’re successful, it’s middle-class America who will feel it the most.
