The average price for gas hit $3.02/gallon here in South Carolina yesterday, according to AAA. That’s up a whopping 55% from this time one year ago.
For now at least, President Biden’s energy policies are not (yet) the primary culprit. Several factors have contributed. For example, the oil cartel controlling most of the world’s oil & gas production, OPEC, has refused to increase supply to meet current demand. There have also been supply chain disruptions and other problems.
And it’s not just gasoline! Crude oil is up 64% since last year. Heating oil, up 68%. Even natural gas has doubled in just the last six months!
Here’s the point:
We can be honest about the fact that President Biden has very little influence over short- & mid-term energy prices. But…
But we should also be clear that – in the long term – Biden’s policies are absolutely going to help sustain these higher prices and make energy less affordable for everyone.
For example: Killing the Keystone XL Pipeline (and thousands of jobs with it) on his first day in office. Actively trying to stop domestic oil and gas exploration. Promoting the far-left’s “Green New Deal” proposals. Embracing new taxes and regulations on our energy. On and on.
With inflation spiraling out of control for just about everything we buy, don’t we deserve leadership who isn’t determined to make it worse? Especially when it comes to volatile energy prices.
