Another Witch Hunt

We all know news of this possible indictment of President Trump is purely political. I want you to remember a few things about this outrageous abuse of power by the district attorney in Manhattan, Alvin Bragg.

I was sounding the alarm on Alvin Bragg over a year ago. This is the district attorney who ordered prosecutors in his office to either downgrade or not pursue many serious crimes like robbing someone’s home, robbery with a deadly weapon, and trespassing. (See my post back in January of last year for more.)

Given how soft Alvin Bragg is on crime, you’d think Trump must have done something truly horrible to be prosecuted by this guy, right? WRONG. News outlets are reporting Mr. Bragg is seeking charges of “falsifying business records” against Trump. Not only that, but falsifying business records is a misdemeanor in New York State. Bragg, however, is reportedly trying to use his power as district attorney to upgrade this to a felony charge!

Think about that for a minute. The same district attorney who wanted to downgrade charges across the board for many people accused of serious crimes is now seeking to upgrade charges of “falsifying business records” against Donald Trump. And the same district attorney who didn’t want to prosecute recent serious crimes in his jurisdiction is now reaching back to prosecute Donald Trump for something he allegedly did almost seven years ago.

You cannot make this stuff up, and you cannot tell me this isn’t political. Of course it is.

Don’t forget a few more things. First, the statute of limitations has long run its course on this, even with the extensions in place for Covid. Second, Alvin Bragg’s predecessor already looked at this and determined there was nothing worth pursuing. Third, Alvin Bragg’s two key witnesses in this case include an adult film actress and a convicted felon. And fourth…

If we’re going to talk about falsifying business records, remember when Hillary Clinton’s campaign disguised its expenditures when it financed the totally discredited Steele Dossier? She settled for a slap on the wrist from the Federal Election Commission, not criminal prosecution seven years later by an overzealous state district attorney. The double-standard here is HUGE.

Friends, this isn’t about justice or the rule of law. If it were, these charges would never be filed. Instead, this is about the optics of an indictment. That’s all they care about. This is a total witch hunt.
