Rep. Norman's Statement on the "INVEST in America Act"

On Thursday, Rep. Ralph Norman (SC-5) voted again H.R. 3684, titled the “INVEST in America Act.”  Two of the primary reasons for his opposition are:

  1. H.R. 3684 includes over 1,400 earmarks totaling more than $5.6 billion in spending. As Rep. Norman has stated repeatedly, he believes earmarks are not appropriate unless/until leadership decides to return the House’s appropriations process to regular order.
  2. H.R. 3684 represents a substantial amount of new debt, according to the Congressional Budget Office, with no apparent new revenue or offsets elsewhere to pay for this measure.

Rep. Norman issued the following statement on Thursday:

"I was not sent to Washington to bankrupt our country. We are over $28 trillion dollars in debt with no appetite in Congress to get our fiscal house in order.  Infrastructure is vital to our nation, of course, but I cannot and will not support fiscal irresponsibility in this (or any) bill."
