It was my honor to attend two incredible Veterans Day events in SC-05 this weekend.
On Sunday, I visited Lakewood Baptist Church in Rock Hill, where I had the privilege of recognizing over one hundred Veterans and their family members, and thank them for their sacrifices to ensure our freedoms. Pastor Jerry Devinney and Terry Gregory do a tremendous job each November of putting… Read more »
Our nation has a responsibility to provide the highest levels of care for those who have served our nation. Those hired to treat and care for our veterans should have a proven record of providing quality health care. That is why, last week, I reintroduced the Ensuring Quality Care for Our Veterans Act.
This bill would require the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) to have a patient’s… Read more »
Today, we honor and celebrate Veterans who have courageously served our country. The freedoms we enjoy every single day is all because of them.
SC-05 ought to recognize one of the greatest heroes our country has ever seen in combat - our fellow constituent, Major James Capers, Jr. After finding a home in the Marine Corps, he became the first African American to get a… Read more »
Over the weekend, a drone attack from Iranian-backed militants killed three American troops and injured over 30 others. This attack was at a U.S. military outpost located in Jordan near the border of Syria. Most of you may not know this, but since early October, U.S. forces in Iraq, Syria, and Jordan have been attacked ~165 times.
This attack, however, is the deadliest for U.S. forces… Read more »
It doesn't seem like 22 years ago. In many ways, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, still seem like yesterday, when almost 3,000 people were murdered by terrorists on American soil.
The numbers 9-11 represent so much more than a tragic anniversary. It's a daily reminder of how blessed we are to live in this nation. However, that blessing is a target for evil, and we must never… Read more »
Good news out of the House last week, as we finally passed a reasonable version of the National Defense Authorization Act. If you consume a lot of political news, you may have seen reports about conservative amendments to that legislation, and how I, along with others from the House Freedom Caucus, were fighting hard for those changes.
For a while there, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to… Read more »
This week, the House is working through the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). In overly simple terms, the NDAA is annual legislation that sets the operating budget of our Defense Department and (to an extent) prescribes how those funds are to be used.
It remains to be seen whether I’ll be able to vote in favor of the final version of this legislation. There are still a lot of… Read more »
Courage. Honor. Sacrifice.
While there is no proper way to thank those who have laid down their lives for our freedoms, this Memorial Day we remember their sacrifice, praise their courage, and honor them by continuing to love our country so their death may not be in vain. They fought for our freedoms and we must continue to do the same. Read more »
Please join me on Wednesday, April 12th as we meet and hear from Maj. James Capers, one of the most decorated Marines in Force Reconnaissance history!
I've filed a bill in the House, H.R. 587, to authorize the President to award the Medal of Honor to Maj. Capers for acts of valor during the Vietnam War. As the recipient of a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars with “V” for… Read more »
