Three quick housekeeping items related to the South Carolina DMV and COVID-19...
If you have a driver's license, ID card, placard for disabled parking, or vehicle registration that has or will expire between March 1st and June 30th of this year, the SC DMV is treating all of those as valid through July 1st. The DMV has made law enforcement agencies in South Carolina aware of this extension. Out-of-state agencies, however, may not be aware.
There’s a letter from the SC DMV you can print and carry with you if you’re traveling with a license or registration that expired after March 1st – see link below. But just be mindful this letter is a request – not a mandate – that law enforcement treat expired SC credentials as valid through July 1st.

Second, until further notice, DMV offices in South Carolina are no longer open to walk-ins. Some DMV business can be done online through their website, but if you need to visit a branch in person, you’ll need an appointment first. Please visit:

And third, non-commercial passenger vehicle road tests have been suspended until further notice. (To the disappointment of everyone about to turn 16, I’m sure.) The DMV is, however, still conducting CDL and motorcycle road tests by appointment only.
