Update for Stimulus Payment Recipients

Washington, D.C., April 10, 2020

Many have asked about how their stimulus payments will be received. For most people, no action is needed on your part.

The IRS will calculate and process your payment based on the information provided in your 2019 or 2018 tax return. If you received a refund via direct deposit from your 2019 or 2018 federal tax return, the IRS will attempt to electronically deposit your stimulus payment into that account.

However, there are several reasons why someone may not have filed taxes for 2019 or 2018. In these cases, the IRS is now asking that you provide your information to them through their website – see link below – so that your payment can be quickly processed.

Note: many Social Security and SSDI recipients are among those not required to file tax returns. Those individuals do NOT need to complete this form. Instead, their stimulus payments will be deposited into the bank account used to receive their Social Security benefits.
