On Wednesday, Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) issued the following statement concerning mask mandates in general, and more specifically the recent announcement by the House of Representatives' Attending Physician to once again implement mask requirements:
 

"Government has absolutely no business implementing new mask mandates. This is particularly true on Capitol Hill, which ought to be a shining example for our entire nation. Instead, it's become a comical illustration of irrational anxiety.

"There is no ambiguity in the CDC data. Even with the new Delta variant, COVID hospitalization rates for people who have been vaccinated is currently 0.003 percent. That's three one-thousandths of one percent! And the COVID death rates among those who have been fully vaccinated is just a fraction of that. The reality is that vaccinated individuals have a greater chance of dying from a bee sting, car accident, or even a lightning strike than they do from COVID.

"The Americans I know have never cowered in fear over risks this small! Which is why it's absolutely ridiculous for mask mandates to be re-implemented in the halls of Congress, where the overwhelming majority of members and staff have chosen to get vaccinated.

"I believe given everything we know today, government-imposed mask mandates represent a harmful combination of virtue signaling, CYA, and unjustified fear. For the sake of our nation, this has to stop!"
